LETSTALK GOR Half Marathon

Donation protected

Our health, in all aspects, is such a vital component to living in which we all to often neglect. In today’s society we are seeing a heart aching trend of growing mental illness amoung our community, one positive is that with initiatives like LETSTALK , hopefully people will feel more inclined to speak up. In today’s  society there is to much pressure to be perfect daily, not just for ourselves but others too. Unless you’ve ever felt this way before it’s all to easy to be naive about the topic and not care, (and probably flick past this long amount of writing) but for the sake of those around you, get knowledgeable for them. 1 in 3 of you will feel ‘this way’ at some point in your life.. Writing this has made me somewhat anxious, go figure, however for the sake of its purpose, I’ve put the angst behind me. I have always been described as the ‘happy smiling confident girl’ however a beautiful lady in my life Jodie reminded me, supported me and showed me over the past few years of seeing her that even those types of people were aloud as many bad days as the next person and that life’s to short not to be lived with as much purpose and creativity as possible and that I was so loved. My point being I heard a lot about Mental illness but never thought in my wildest dreams that a few years ago I would of been diagnosed with anxiety and that it was secretly ruling my damn life. Fast forward three years later..an amazing bunch of mates, incredible family, a yoga course, lots of shitty medicines and a life saving pair of runners (really!), I changed those shitty days around by hitting the pavement. Running was my outlet, and still to this day is. Nothing took away the stabbing pain in my chest quite like it. So, not for attention, not wanting your empathy, for no rhyme or reason other than sometimes the people you least expect feel crap at some point in there lives, probably a lot of people close to you! I’m a true example of it being something that you can get past. It’s inevitable If i will never feel this way again, but I believe talking, even if it was to only a close few people (my best friend Steph is the most incredible person out ) helped me through. It may last longer for others but it’s not forever.
The last few weeks I have been in awe of Jane Fitzgibbon and her incredible family as we have been discussing mental health, friends/family, the impacts and the reasons behind starting LETSTALK. Their beautiful son, brother, friend of mine, our school group and so many others..lost our beautiful eyed, contagious smiled, big hearted Sammy to mental illness coming up 2 years ago this week. I will be running the Great Ocean Road Half Marathon on Sunday May 20th in Lorne and thought it couldn’t be more appropriate to raise funds for a charity so close to many of our hearts, while doing something that has helped me get so ahead. If you’ve got this far, thanks for reading, let’s keep Sam, Seamus, and the many others we’ve lost close to our hearts everyday and try to live life with little judgement. We never really know someone’s story, until we know. Your greatest power is that you are you. Take care of your mates and see you at the finish line for a beer or two and let’s support this great initiative ❤️
