Gofundus to Kenya

Hi! We’re Kate and Molly, cousins from Vermont. In the summer of 2016 we traveled to Kenya with an incredible non-profit organization called United Kids Soccer Development. The mission of UKSD is to provide social change through soccer, by encouraging kids to become leaders and create positive change in their communities. For many children around the world, soccer is more than a sport, it is life. It’s where they find their friends, their confidence to succeed, and an understanding of teamwork and community. UKSD strives to provide kids with the proper equipment, coaching, clinics, and encouragement.

Our goal is to return to Kenya and continue building relationships with the community we met during our trip in 2016. During our stay we were fortunate enough to meet a man the kids call “Coach Edwin”, and we were immediately taken with his enthusiasm, commitment, and loyalty to his home and its people. Edwin hails from Kibera, Kenya, which is one of the largest and most densely populated slums in the world. Needless to say, there are endless challenges for the residents of Kibera, and especially so for children.

Edwin’s devotion to his home is undeniable. He is an outstanding role model to many, and is able to provide what many children in Kibera lack: the opportunity to succeed and grow in a safe and encouraging environment. What really wins the hearts of these kids is the sport. Edwin flawlessly teaches them valuable life lessons through the irresistible game of soccer.

The kids we had the pleasure of meeting were eager, driven and thrilled for any opportunity to prove themselves. Such people should get all the support in the world. When UKSD’s founders, Lee Docherty and Meghan Fligg, witnessed the positive impact Edwin has on these kids, they made the firm decision to give their full support to Kibera and the soccer community that Edwin has created. We knew that this is where we needed to be, and where the money was needed most.

What we are asking for is your support. When the people of Kibera do not have all the resources they need to make the changes they wish to see in their communities, we need to reach out across the globe to those who care and have the means. While asking for help is never easy, it is with absolute conviction we tell you that with the right resources, these children are capable of changing their world for the better. Even if you can only contribute $5, you are getting us one step closer to Kibera.

Thank you!!
