Modesto Martinez COVID-19 Family Support

Dear friends, Downtown Los Angeles community, and Falls Lounge family:
One of our very own, Mr. Modesto Martinez, bartender at The Falls Lounge and a staple in the DTLA community, has tested positive for the COVID-19 Virus. On March 16th, 2020 Modesto became ill with restricted breathing, fever and cough, all of the symptoms of the Corona Virus.
He is still currently in critical condition at the Valley Presbyterian Hospital. Doctors have him on a ventilator 24/7. For the first few days that Modesto was hospitalized, his lungs were completely unresponsive to any medication the doctors tried. Doctors told Modesto's wife, Veronica Garcia, that they did not expect him to recover from this.
As of Friday, March 27th, Doctors updated Modesto's family that his lung function showed slight improvement. Although this was wonderful news, he is not in the clear yet.
Dr. Shu-Yuan Xiao, a pathology professor at the University of Chicago School of Medicine states, "COVID-19 patients who go into the intensive care unit and need ventilators are more likely to have lung damage, and to develop acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), a severe lung condition in which fluid collects in the lungs' air sacs."
We all avidly await the continued positive reports from Modesto's hospital team.
Modesto Martinez has always been an exceptionally hard worker, juggling 2-3 jobs to support his loving wife and children. We are all struggling through this stressful and unpredictable quarantine, but this unfortunate situation will prove incredibly detrimental to the Martinez Family.
Let us all pull together and help support one of our own.
