The Bracci family has had their share of adversity over the years. Colleen (Mom) fought and won the battle with late stage breast cancer during her early 30's only to find out that the aggressive treatments left her with congestive heart failure. Steve (Dad) has battled severe debilitating Crohn's disease for much of his adult life.
Through all of these trials and tribulations anyone would be hard pressed to recall a time that this amazing family ever asked for any assistance, in fact the exact opposite occurs regularly. We've lost count of how many months Colleen has been the largest contributor to the Golisano Children's Hospital, has helped to organize and host events for people in need or given in numerous, quiet unseen ways.
2015 has been the most difficult year to date for the Bracci's and they need your prayers and support. Colleen's hero in life, her father Andy, suddenly became ill in February and in a weeks’ time, passed away. Thankfully, Colleen was able to be by his side for his final moments. In a horrific twist of events Colleen's husband Steve also became very ill in January and, on the day her father passed away, her husband was also fighting for his life in ICU in the very same hospital. Steve was diagnosed in February with an extremely rare disease called hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis. This disease strikes 1 in a million and typically children under 2. We are sadden to share with you that after 49 days in the hospital Steve passed away from this disease on April 2, 2015 surrounded by family and friends.
Colleen always tries to remain upbeat and positive. We don’t hear her Betty Rubble (Flintstones reference for those who are old enough to remember) laugh as much as we used to though. On several occasions she has had to tell her two children “this might be goodbye” because “Mom might not make it out of this procedure”, "Dad is in serious condition" and didn’t want to go without telling them she loved them.
Please help raise money for Colleen who has medical expenses accumulating all while she is dealing with the loss of most of their income.
The amount we chose above is just a number, we don't really know how much will be enough, so anything you can do is wonderful and amazing and appreciated. 100% of the donations go directly to Colleen Bracci.
