MHM Campaign in Sierra Leone

Donation protected
Girl Up Vine Club Sierra Leone is a community based organization (CBO) that functions at Vine Memorial Secondary School for Girls (VMSSG), Congo Cross, Freetown, Sierra Leone - West Africa.

We were founded on January 22 2016, the first United Nations (UN) foundation campaign "Girl Up Club" in Sierra Leone. We aim to promote the health, safety, leadership & education of adolescent girls in Sierra Leone through community outreach, advocacy & public speaking workshops.

As a Girl Up Club, we are mandated by the UN to carry out 5 annual projects:
1. In February 2018, we had our online campaign & internal workshops on FGM/C and SGBV in Sierra Leone & globally.

2. March 2018 we canvassed from school to school encouraging high school girls to vote to do so the upcoming elections.

3. May 2018. May 28 is Menstrual Hygiene Day. Are online fundraiser & campaign is on going & the girls will have an internal menstrual workshop on June 6 where they’ll be trained by SRHR advocates, a pharmacist & doctor & do yoga.

4. October 2018. International Day of the Girl Child training & cleaning the beach exercise.

5. December 2018. 16 Days of Activism Training, Debate & Spelling Bee.

On Menstrual Hygiene Day (May 28) we launched our online campaign with this year’s theme #NoMoreLimits by sharing videos, messages & photos about embracing menstruation, destigmatizing it & by raising awareness.
Every year we fundraise for monetary & in kind donations to assist the girls throughout the year & to donate to a targeted community.
Last year we raised over $1500 & donated 20% & 200 dignity kits to the survivors of the August 2017 mudslide.

This year, we would like to raise $2000 (Le15,000,000) & receive 200 dignity kits to implement a week long (2 days each) Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) in Kambia District (rural) & Bombali District (urban). In this training we will be documenting the differences/similarities (if any) of MHM in urban & rural girls in the same region. to present at the Human Resources for Health (HRH Forum). Last year, we presented menstruation in rural & urban adolescent girls in Dublin, Ireland at the HRH Forum 2017 in November using Freetown (urban) & Kambia District (rural) as case studies.
