Plymouth To DC Police Bike Ride

In memory of Officer Gregg Maloney

“We ride for those who died”

On Monday, April 1st, 2014, Officer Gregg Maloney, a 17 year veteran of the Plymouth Police Department, was working a motorcycle patrol with his partner Officer Matthew Macomber.  What started out as a bitter cold day and begged the question “Why did they put the bikes out", turned into a warm, sunny day on the bike, which is what Gregg loved. Tragically, the day ended with a crash, causing fatal injuries to Gregg. Despite the valiant efforts of Matt, Paramedics and the ER Staff, Gregg could not be saved.

Gregg is one of many Officers who worked their last shift and died in the line of duty this year.  His name, along with all of those killed in the line of duty will be added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington D.C.  Gregg was our good friend and it is in his memory we are riding our bikes from Plymouth to the World Trade Center where we will link up with the “Police Unity Tour” and continue on to Washington D.C.

Unfortunately, Officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice and whose names are etched on the walls of the memorial drift from the forefront of our daily routines. The stories of their sacrifice fade in our memories and into history.  As part of our ride and separate from the Unity Tour, we are riding in honor of those Officers who died in the line of duty from each of our respective departments. Upon reaching the Memorial in Washington D.C., we will take an etching; place a patch, prayer and wreath of remembrance at each of their panels.

The members of our bike team are; Officer Tracy Manion - Milton PD and Officer Paul Boyle – Newton PD.  Both of us worked with Gregg in Plymouth and have the honor of calling him our friend.  Money raised will go to the Unity Tour which in turn makes a donation to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.  Any donations beyond what is raised for the Unity Tour will be donated equally to the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Memorial and The Liam Macomber Memorial Foundation which assists families who suffer the loss of a child.
