Helping the children in Yemen

We are four 15-year-old students who are passionate about the crisis in Yemen and recognise it's urgent need for assistance. We will be running a half marathon (21 km) to show our support for the people of Yemen, and would greatly appreciate a donation of any size. Every single cent will be donated to the UNICEF Yemen appeal, of which the focus is children and their wellbeing.

Since the escalation of the civil war in March 2018, more than 12,000 civilians and 5,000 children have been killed as well as 20,000 injured due to explosions, attacks and landmines. 1.2 million children live in active conflict zones, witnessing horrible war crimes and heavy violence

The collapse of the economy and public institutions has led to the death of thousands from illness and disease- and currently up to 12.2 MILLION children are in urgent need of humanitarian care.

Sanitation and clean water are in short supply, with only a small amount of the health facilities working, let along with adequate masks, PPE and medical equipment. Over 2 MILLION children are malnourished in Yemen, and a child dies every 10 minutes from a preventable disease.

It will go directly to the UN Yemen Appeal:

"To Scale up our water, hygiene and sanitation response to reach more children with vital clean and safe water;

Restore critical water systems that have been damaged or fallen into disrepair;

Deliver urgently needed hygiene kits and communal water tanks to internally displaced communities;

Provide vaccines, water and sanitation supplies, emergency food and medical treatment to children and families in conflict zones."

We will be running a Half Marathon (21km) across a mixed terrain of hills, coastal walks, sidewalks, beachfront pathways, roads and rough dirt paths. The course will start at Collaroy, go around Narrabeen lake, up around Warriewood and Mona Vale headlands and then around to Newport. The course is not yet finalised but will be updated as we go.

We will be running the course on the 28th of November 2020, however this date may change.
