MMZ All-Abilities Golf Cart Campaign

To increase the Zoo's accessibility, we must first tackle our mountaintop location. A long walk from the parking lot to our front gate may result in guests with limited mobility choosing not to visit our grounds. We wish to purchase a golf cart to offer a shuttle service from the parking lot to the gate for visitors.

Mill Mountain Zoo is an accredited family friendly destination committed to education and wildlife conservation. MMZ views science literacy and the access to increasing ones understanding in science as a matter of social justice. There are four basics principals of social justice: access, equity, rights, and participation. As a community, we need to address giving our citizens of all ages equitable access to science education. We believe that helping all guests visit the Zoo in person will increase the rate of science literacy in the Roanoke Valley.

While we may not be able to offer schedule times daily, the golf cart will be available as needed. This addition will let us regularly schedule opening the Zoo earlier. Adding a golf cart to our list of amenities would allow us to offer special times for Seniors and anyone wishing to utilize the shuttle service and/or our mobility scooters.
