When Amya was just 12 days old she began to have seizures, we brought her to the hospital to find out that she had meningitis. While in the hospital they did an MRI and found that she had multiple spots and brain bleeds in each lobe of her brain from strokes. Amya was in and out of the hospital for two months she was diagnosed with epilepsy and laryngomalacia at the time.
As Amya grew we continued to take her to all of her therapies and doctor appointments. When she was 11 months old she was diagnosed with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy, no one is able to tell us how she will be able to function when she gets older. Amya has a baby brother coming soon and we would like to save his blood cord in hopes that one day it could help Amya with her Cerebral Palsy. When speaking to doctors and reps from the cord blood company they believe sibling blood cord could help increase her function in the future.
Now that Amya is 16 months old she is starting to grow out of the standard baby equipment and unable to functionally use the equipment a toddler would be using. Because of this Amya is in need of a lot of equipment. A stander, bath seat, stroller and feeding system with extra support of her trunk and head so she can perform activities and most importantly play in a better position. Luckily we were able to get some equipment through our insurance but not everything is covered for her.
As time goes on and Amya grows she may need many different types of equipment to help make her more independent. We, as her family, chose to make this account so that with the help of others we know we are trying and able to give her the best opportunity to live her life to the fullest and as independently as she can.
