MMCG is Expanding! 2021

Who We Are?
As a NeighborSpace garden, Montrose Metra Community Garden is a group of Chicago neighbors with a mission is to create vibrant, green community spaces that connect neighbors and fosters a healthy, sustainable environment for all.

We work hard for our community. What started four years ago along the Metra tracks between Montrose and Berteau has grown into more than permanent vegetable plots. We host a public orchard of native fruits, a pollinator friendly planting flyway, and an Oak Savannah. Our produce supports three local food pantries: Common Pantry, Ravenswood Community Services and Lincoln Square Friendship Center. More than anything, our garden has become home for the families that grow in its plots, the students from area schools and colleges who come to learn about ecology and civic engagement, and the countless volunteers and visitors we host each year both at the gardens and our Green and Growing Speaker Series at the Sulzer Regional Library.

Now We Want To Expand!

We have outgrown our current  space.
Due to the overwhelming support and interest of our neighbors, our waitlist for vegetable plots could fill our current garden two times over and some have now waited two years for a plot! We need more space!

We can double our community impact in every way.
If we install additional vegetable beds between Montrose and Sunnyside, just North of our current plots and South of the Sunnyside Savannah we maintain (linking our current spaces), we would  double our vegetable donations to local pantries, the services of our gardeners, the involvement of the local community. and the amount of plot rental donations we pull in each year (providing us with a budget that can sustain us without the need of outside grants).

We have the support of our community.
With the support of Alderman Matt Martin, the Greater Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce, Union Pacific, NeighborSpace, our local SSAs and the help of our fantastic community, we know we can reach this goal.

We just need your help to get it built!

Please donate. Also, if you know of a fundraiser we can be a part of, have an employer that does matching donations, or if you know a company that could donate funds or resources, we'd love to hear from you.
