Juan Carroll, Jr. Transplant Fund

My sweet wife, Angela, passed away on February 4, 2015, at the age of 39. She was known as "The Lady with 3 Hearts," because she had undergone two heart transplants, one when she was 12, and another when she was 31.

We had received word the Friday before she died that she would need another transplant because of heart failure brought on by chronic rejection. However, she hardly even began to get "worked up" for getting listed, because her aorta suddenly ruptured early Wednesday morning.

Angela was an incredible, godly woman, wife, mother of our 3-year-old son Karsten, and friend who touched countless lives with her wisdom, resilience, and generosity. She ran the course that was set out for her and claimed her prize. She does not suffer any more, though those of us left behind grieve.

I was already set to run a half-marathon in Sugar Land on March 22nd, and now I am doing so in her honor.

Our family has been supporting a little boy named Juan Carroll, Jr., who is the nephew of some close friends. Juan needs a liver transplant before he turns 5. We were touched by his story because Angela was once a pediatric transplant patient, and because our little boy is about his age.

Juan's family has been trying to raise $50,000 to help defray the cost of the future transplant through the Children's Organ Transplant Asociation. . So far, they are within $8,000 of their goal.

In honor of Angela, I want to push Juan's fundraising  within sight of the finish line. Please sponsor my half-marathon either by donating to this account, or by donating directly to Juan Carroll, Jr.'s page at cota.org.
