Riding for Charity / Selma to Montg

Donation protected
A friend of mine invited me to ride in a Selma to Montgomery bike ride to take place this Saturday on Feb 21st in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights March. With all the excitement and historical significance surrounding this year's celebration events, the ride initially sounded like a good idea....But then I found out that they are actually RIDING the whole 55 miles! I've never riden a bike further than a couple of miles in my LIFE, so I quickly ruled out the possibility of participating.

But when I consider that our forefathers WALKED that long journey for something that they believed in, why can't I RIDE the same journey for something that I believe in? The ride is only 5 days away but I've decided to participate for that reason, for a worthy cause.

I want to raise money for charities that benefit our local youth. My two brothers and I are all engineers and our parents taught school in the Montgomery Public School System where we received our quality education. I feel that it is important to expose children early to the importance of education and future career opportunities. Please consider making a modest donation. If I'm crazy enough to get on a road bike for the first time and attempt to ride 55 miles on a public highway, perhaps you will be generous enough to help me to help our local youth. All donations will go towards this cause. Thank you for your support and for your prayers, I'll need ALL the prayers I can get.

Sincerely,
James Dixon
