My childrens hero

Donation protected
Hello everyone, My name is Tom Gongora and I am posting this on behalf of my children. On Saturday February 14, 2015 my children were returning home from the park with their mother and their pet Mini Poodle. Their mother went to unlock the front door to the home and then went inside to get some drinks for the children who wanted to stay outside with their dog and continue playing since the weather was so nice. A stray Pit Bull that was in the area saw the children and their small Poodle in the yard and charged at them and pinned my children between the garage door and our vehicle. Thats when my children's Mini Poodle jumped in front of them and attempted to protect them from the Pit Bull which was now attacking them. The Pit Bull began to maul their Poodle right before them as they were screaming with fear for help. The childrens mother heard the screams and ran outside to see what was happening and as soon as the Pit Bull saw her it charged towards her as well getting between the children and their mother. The childrens Mini Poodle again got between the Pit Bull and their mother who was trying to git to our children to protect them and again the Pit Bull began attacking our Mini Poodle. The Pit Bull returned his attention to our children who were still pinned and began approaching them for a 2nd time and as before the Poodle placed himself between our children and the attacking Pit Bull with the same results. This went on for a good 10 minutes before the Sheriff's Dept. and Constables arrived and were able to draw the Pit Bull away from the children and their Poodle.  My family was directed to rush the Mini Poodle to an Emergency Pet Services Clinic where he was seen and the extent of his injuries were revealed. Our Hero was examined and as a result of his actions had serious life threatening injuries. A broken jaw, puncture wounds in various locations on his body, muscle seperation / tear with hernia's. He was treated for shock and given pain medication after his exam and at which point the Vet explained that the outlook was poor at best and the family should make a decision and consider putting him to sleep if our hero did not respond to the shock treatment and pain medications by the early morning. The next morning my family returned to the Vet, and were expecting the worst. The family was greeted by the morning staff and were told that our hero had responded slightly to his initial treatment for shock but was still critical and not moving. The staff took my children back to see their pet and spend some time with him. When their pet saw my children, he immediately tried to stand and began wagging his tail. The staff were completely taken aback and told my family that our pet had not moved or showed any signs of positive response at all until the children went in. The Dr. who was on duty at that time said that reaction was a very positive sign and they would continue to monitor through the day. The staff reccommended that my children return as often as they could in hopes of continued positive responses, which they have been able to do.
Now here is our problem... Initially there was a $600.00 payment required just for my childrens pet to be seen, evaluated and treated for shock. Then followed by another $485.00 for the additional day's stay. Yesterday he was stable enough to be moved to another location for specialized treatment where he would be x-rayed to fully determine the seriousness of his internal injuries at a cost of $823.00. Today there was an additional $2500.00 initial payment required to conduct the surgery to determine and rule out any other internal injuries apart from the puncture wounds and hernia's that were felt and seen upon his initial emergency treatment. He still will need to have his jaw repaired along with anestesia and other needed follow-up treatment. This is where your help would be tremendously apprecieated. Any help with this expense is a blessing that we will be so very thankful for.
Some of you may ask "Why even bother with this dog and waste money for an animal?" After what our pet did for our children, how could you not do it? He is our children's Hero as well as mine. Thank you and God bless you for your kindness.
