MaryJo LaBorde's Medical Fund

On Thursday September 7th, after feeling ill for a couple of days, MaryJo's condition declined rapidly. She was found unresponsive and an ambulance was called. MaryJo was intubated upon admission to the hospital. After she was evaluated in the ED, she was admitted to the ICU. She was diagnosed with Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), sepsis and pneumonia. After further evaluation, the physicians determined that she had developed acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
As of now, she is still intubated and sedated in the ICU. The physicians are mainly concerned with the ARDS and the kidney failure due to the DKA. They have taken several measures to combat the ARDS. She is also undergoing dialysis to help with the kidney failure.
Although she is still considered critically ill, the physicians are cautiously optimistic that she will recover. They anticipate roughly a 1 month hospital stay. After discharge, she is going to continue to need therapy for a lengthy rehabilitation journey. It is unclear if and when she will be able to return to work.
