Tashane Byrds Thanksgiving Donation

On June 4, 2013 my family and I suffered a great loss. My son, Christopher Tashane Byrd, was tragically taken from us. These past four years have been filled with difficulty, emotional struggle and some healing. Through this unreal reality, my husband and I thought of ways to accomplish charitable things to do in our son’s name. We cannot let his death be in vain.

In 2013 we struggled with even having Thanksgiving. However, Thanksgiving was Chris’ favorite holiday, and if you knew him, you knew he absolutely loved to eat. We decided to start there. That same year we gave an entire meal to a family in his name.

My youngest son attends an awesome school, St. Luke in the Bronx, that creates a "marketplace" for families that need help for the Thanksgiving holiday. Families like ours donate goods, and the school opens the marketplace to others so they can “shop” for their Thanksgiving meals.

In the spirit of giving – to give my son’s memory even more meaning, and to give to those less fortunate than us – we are asking for donations to help stock the Thanksgiving market. Last year we received $2175.  We would like to raise $10 above last year’s goal.  $10 will purchase an additional 8 boxes of stuffing!

The money that we help raise will 100% go to the items that are needed to stock the market. Anything that you are able to donate is appreciated from the bottom of our hearts.

After we complete the shopping, my family posts the final receipt and photos of all of the items we’ve been able to buy.

Please note that if you are a family that needs a bit of help this Thanksgiving, contact me and I will absolutely make sure that you receive a stocked basket. I will do it with discretion and honor.
