On Friday 15th August, Twin brothers Gareth & David Dargle alongside club-mate Stephen Delaney will embark on a single‑ride, 580.7 km marathon from Malin Head to Mizen Head—through the night—to raise funds and awareness for Balbriggan Chain of Survival. The lads hope to have other VCB members alongside at various points
They’re dedicating this epic effort to their club‑mate and dear friend, David Gaffney, whose sudden cardiac arrest underscored how crucial immediate access to defibrillators really is.
David’s passion for cycling and the camaraderie he fostered at Velo Club Balrothery inspired us all. This ride isn’t just about conquering miles—it’s about ensuring no family in Balbriggan ever feels powerless in the face of a cardiac emergency.

Seconds count: the chance of survival drops by 10% for every minute without defibrillation.
Our mission is simple but bold: ensure an AED is within a 3–5 minute walk of every resident, 24/7, 365 days a year.
Balbriggan Chain of Survival is a dedicated group committed to installing AEDs every 400–500 m across the town. As Ireland’s youngest large town—home to numerous sports facilities—this initiative is vital.
With widespread AED availability and community training, we can make Balbriggan Ireland’s most “defibrillator‑ready” town.
