Recently, our dear friend Mitch Wiesjahn, 23, was diagnosed with an ultra rare form of liver cancer.  I am sharing parts of his mom’s Facebook posts to better explain his situation.

Mitch’s mom;  “I need to ask for additional prayers for Mitch. He does have liver cancer and his type of cancer is ultra-rare. Because he has multiple tumors, it is very difficult to surgically remove and leave enough liver for him to survive.  He has been diagnosed with Fibrolamellar hepaticellular carcinoma and only 200 cases are found worldwide each year. His hemoglobin was steadily dropping so they transfused blood last night. We still don't know where he is bleeding. Thursday all his care providers are having a conference about how to proceed. I am asking for your prayers to guide the medical team to make the best decision possible.”
”I wanted to give everyone an update on Mitch. The surgeons have decided against any surgery for him. Surgery was his best shot at curing or arresting the cancer. So here is the situation: the oncologist will be here today to talk about options for extending his life. Mitch will then have to decide whether to undergo chemo therapy or not. My understanding of the situation is that Mitchell is on borrowed time. I am now asking for everyone to pray for a miracle or at least help in coming to terms with his condition. We have been blessed love and support from all. Mitch is an amazing man and we have also been blessed with him.”
”Okay I have another update!! Apparently the transplant surgeon has been talking to other physicians and reviewed Mitchell's scans and HAS DECIDED TO TAKE ON MITCHELL'S SURGERY AFTER ALL. HE JUST CALLED AND SHOCKED US COMPLETELY. WE ARE NOW CAUTIOUSLY HOPEFUL. THANK YOU FOR THE PRAYERS. I BELIEVE THAT WE HAVE HAD SOME ANSWERED.”

As a friend of his family, I have  watched Mitch grow from a fun loving little boy into a talented young man.  Mitch graduated from college last spring and was just starting his career as a writer when he received this horrible diagnosis.
I am asking you to join me in helping Mitch and his family with the medical expenses that come with this type of diagnosis.  As a mother of a cancer survivor, I know firsthand that even with insurance, medical bills can be a financial burden, and insurance doesn’t help with travel costs and lost wages.
