Mistress V Exhibit & Memorial Event

Donation protected
SWers of Chicago have been preparing for a Day of Celebration for Mistress Velvet scheduled this fall. Mistress Velvet passed away on May 8, 2021. They were a deeply integrated and valued member of the SWing community & overall organizing ecosystem of Chicago. Unapologetically Black, queer, and feminist, “V’ was a revolutionary and fierce Domme who inspired many. May their light burn strong.

To honor their memory, we will be celebrating their life and impact on Sunday November 7, 2021 from (3-6pm ct) with a film screening and exhibit centering them, their work, Black domme history and tradition. This will take place at the Leather Archives & Museum (Chicago). We hope to be able to serve food/refreshments and make the event as accessible and COVID-19 safe as possible. All donations will go towards this send off, a final gift, and joyous celebration from their beloved community to mark all the love and light they poured into us.

We are hoping to raise $15K to cover the costs for the following: an in-person exhibit at the Leather Archives and Museum, a Day of Celebration that would incorporate the exhibit, a film screening, outdoor event space, and virtual exhibit. Additionally, we are hoping to raise enough money to be able to cover transportation and lodging costs for Black SWers (and allies) who are coming in from other parts of the city or other parts of the country.

We believe that documenting and archiving the history of Black and brown sex workers and their legacies is important. As we honor Mistress Velvet, we intend to also honor the needs of our community by making this celebration of life event and exhibit space available online. Your donations are greatly appreciated.
