Oklahoma Songwriter  Misti Ashford Lanier needs our help.

For all those who have been praying for Misti, please continue to do so. For those of you that don’t already know, Misti has endured a lot in the last couple of days.

Misti woke up at 4:30 a.m. on Saturday morning with a terrible headache and slightly altered vision. She decided it was possibly a migraine and got up to take two Motrin. She laid back down and couple hours later she woke up and the headache had worsened. She then went ahead and took one Excedrin Migraine. Around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon she started throwing up and realized her vision was getting a lot worse. Close to 2:00 p.m. Misti called cousin Sandy and said “I am really sick and I need you to come over, I think i might need to go to the emergency room.”

When Sandy arrived to her house she knew Misti was bad and immediately loaded her in the vehicle. Misti had decided she wanted to go to Hugo ER. Because of the severe amount of pain she was in upon arrival, Hugo decided they needed to do a CT scan. The scan revealed that Misti had a brain tumor on her Pituitary measuring at least 2 cm. Because of the weather, helicopters were grounded and the ambulances were already in route with other patients. Hugo Hospital set up orders for Misti to go and be admitted in Integris Baptist Medical Center in OKC because they knew she was in an immediate need for further testing and doctors specializing in the situation. They allowed Sandy to take her on by car, advising her to stop at any hospital along the way if needed. They treated Misti for the pain in Hugo and then her and Sandy proceeded on towards OKC with Nathan following a few minutes behind.

On the way to OKC she was rapidly losing her vision. She told Sandy that her vision was narrowing and she was having a hard time seeing much of anything. By the time they made it to Integris Baptist Medical Center she could only see black and gray, and if someone was really close to her she could see parts of them. Immediately after arriving at Integris, an MRI was done and confirmed that there was in fact a tumor. They discovered the tumor was located directly in the center where her optic nerves crossed. The doctors there decided she needed to be sent right away to OU Medical Center. They knew at OU there were better doctors for her condition and one of the best Neurological departments around.

By the time Misti was transferred by ambulance over to OU she had lost all vision in both eyes and wasn’t even reactive to light. Doctors at OU said she needed an immediate surgery to try and remove the tumor. After arriving at OU she was given medicine in which she had a terrible reaction to. After failed attempts at an additional MRI and CT Scan, the doctors at OU decided to go ahead and prep her for surgery and do the test needed right before surgery with her already sedated. After around 7 hours of testing and surgery, the doctors notified the family that the tumor had been successfully removed. During the surgery the pituitary gland also had to be removed.

Misti is currently in ICU at OU Medical Center and is still somewhat under sedation. We are all now waiting for her to be awake enough to be fully accessed by Doctors to determine the status of her vision.

Misti is currently not allowed to have anyone but immediate family for visiting hours.
Nathan would like to express how blessed they are to have such amazing friends and family and he is thankful for the continued prayers. However, he wants to be able to focus at the moment on caring for Misti instead of spending his time on the phone. He is asking for no phone calls or text messages at this time and for everyone to keep up to date with Misti’s condition on Facebook or on the Group Page on Messenger.
Misti and Nathan have a lot of hurdles coming up and they could use your help. Please give, Share this post.

Please continue to pray for Misti.
