Chewy's Cancer Fund

Mista Chewy, a close-to-11-year-old Welsh Terrier has lived a wild and interesting life. Described by many as a Zendog, he is very sweet, calm and wise while simultaneously being goofy and silly. He's met and shared his love with hundreds of people (no exaggeration). He's driven across the country 7 times, flown on planes, been to movies, been IN movies, he runs errands, he does my taxes... (ok, maybe not the taxes part).

Unfortunately, Chewy's always had several health issues. He's had allergies since puppyhood (lots of different foods and medications tried for that), and then was recently diagnosed with GI disease. His diet is incredibly limited because of that, and he's on even more medications. I take him to the vet once a month for allergy shots, and every 4-6 months for gallbladder ultrasounds.

Last week during a routine ultrasound exam, the doctors discovered a new tumor in his urinary bladder. They aspirated & tested it, and it turned out to be Transitional Cell Carcinoma, one of the most aggressive and painful kinds of cancer in dogs. Because it's so aggressive and fast-growing, the doctors said he'd have 1-3 months to live. The other option was surgery to remove the tumor, which had to happen immediately (since it's so fast-growing). Follow-ups would require additional ultrasounds and exams and more medications.

Medical procedures, tests, medications, and follow-ups all add up to a lot of cash! Chewy's touched a lot of lives, and we'd like to ask those of you who've spent time with this charming & unique being to help us with these costs. It's a large amount for one person, but multiple Chewy lovers would help reduce the load!

The timeline of this fundraiser is a little different than most. Since the tumor was growing so fast and a superquick decision had to be made, I am launching the fundraiser after the surgery. I am working with two dear friends to throw a Chewraiser event at the end of this month (September 2018). I'm excited to be teaming up with several artists to celebrate and extend the life of Choo Choo.

The surgery went quite well (the doctor said she was able to get all of it out!), but his post-op period was quite bad. He had to be hospitalized for 3 more days, but he's finally home now and healing slowly but surely. His little quirky personality is slowly coming back!!! We really hope we have at least a year left together.

The surgery cost about $5000 and the additional hospitalization cost $1500. I'm hoping to raise at least the cost of that total (6500), but reaching stretch goals would help a lot in Chewy's continued care: checkups, tests, and medications.

I am currently working with several artists to create beautiful and meaningful rewards for donating to this campaign. I am so grateful to the two artists who've already donated their time to this cause: The Ungoogleable Michaelangelo ( who provided his voice for the video, and Sweet Undertow ( who provided the music. This whole endeavor (the fundraising video, this fundraising page, the fundraising event) is being rolled out it is created. And with each roll-out, I'll post an informative little update, including word on rewards to come! Stay tuned!

My little baby Chewy has meant a lot to me over the years. We recently lost his sister Poochie, and it's hard coming to terms with this little guy's mortality sooo soon after that. Chewy and I would appreciate any way you can help us out, whether through donating or sharing this with your community.

Thank you so much!!! ♥
