Missy's Story

Donation protected
Our sweet, beautiful Melissa Williams that has been our best friend since grade school. The girl, and now woman, that consoled you when you were left out at recess, made you feel stronger when your boyfriend dumped you, and dried your tears when you felt like an inadequate mom.

As many of you know, Missy is in the fight of her life right now. In June, a routine mammogram turned into multiple surgeries and ultimately the diagnosis of an aggressive strain of breast cancer.

She spent little time in shock and grieving, and quickly went into survival mode. By that we mean weekly chemo/radiation treatments that her doctors described as a “dirty bomb” to get rid her cancer. And survival mode meaning that she was the bravest, strongest mom for her two little boys that view her as their beacon and rock. No taekwondo class was missed, volunteering at school increased to make sure they knew she was present, and normalcy was the name of the game at home to prove to her boys that they can get through anything together.

After six months of treatment in the rearview mirror, and six additional months in front of her, Missy needs to go back to work for financial reasons. Unfortunately, she is not in the condition to go back to her full-time job, take care of her family, and most importantly continue to heal herself.

This is where we need to bring her voice and story to social media. You haven’t seen Missy post her cancer journey on Facebook. No pictures in her scarf or stories of chemotherapy. It’s not because she’s ashamed of her diagnosis. On the contrary, she has embodied the definition of warrior with grace and strength, and proudly accepts the new person she’s become because this undoubtedly changes who you are. Rather, she’s private and leverages her amazing tribe of family and best friends to feed her soul and help her rise.

But now, we need the help of a larger tribe. Many have asked how they can help? Never ask Missy, because she’ll tell you there’s nothing she needs. But now she needs less financial stress to prolong her time at home to get better.

Any donation, no matter how small, will be appreciated. She may not be the happiest that we suggested this route as a solution, but I know she will be the most grateful to see the wonderful people in her world come together to help our sweet, beautiful and incredibly brave Missy.

Love,

Her through thick and thin, ups and downs, for better or worse best of friends
