Mississippi River Summer Youth Programming

Last summer LMRF, tried something that had never done before. We invited a group of students from the Mississippi Delta to join us on a five-day leadership camp on the Mississippi River.

Every year, groups come from all over the country to canoe with Quapaw Canoe Company on the Mississippi River but the kids who live in the Delta, only miles away from the Mississippi, have often never even seen the river.

We decided to change that.  We raised money and recruited students from Helena and Clarksdale to join us for a five-day leadership camp on the big river.  
 
There are not a lot of opportunities for kids in the Delta to get outside or participate in outdoor recreation.  The students who signed up had never been camping before, they had never been canoeing and some didn't even know how to swim.  This trip introduced them to all of it and created an amazing group of ambassadors and advocates for the river. 

Last year, we struggled to recruit students. Parents and kids both thought we were crazy.  Now that the first group of kids blazed the way we have a ton of interested students for this year! In order to make sure we can serve them all we need your help!!  

Can you help sponsor a student for one of our summer programs?

$750 sponsors a student for the five-day Mississippi River Summer Leadership Camp. This camp is for high school students who live in the Mississippi and Arkansas Delta.

We also offer programming for younger students all summer long! 

$100 sponsors a student for a week-long Day Camp
$50 sponsors a student for one of our 1-day community programs

Help us continue to offer unique opportunities for kids in the Delta to experience the river that runs through their backyard!
