Mission Trip to Cabo Verde

Hi- my name is Ellie Dougherty, I am currently a 14 year old freshman in highschool with a GPA of 3.8. I am 1 out of 12 students chosen to be part of a mission trip to Cabo Verde, Africa with my mother in the summer of 2018. We will be going to Praia which is the capital of Cabo Verde (also known as Cape Verde) for 2 weeks and will be volunteering through Cabo Verde For Life by participating in an educational supply drive. We will be personally delivering school supplies to the schools in Praia and the countryside, then we will be conducting English lessons at orphanages near the city of Assomada. My goal is to raise $4,000 by April 2018 (cost of trip). This money goes towards plane tickets, sleeping accommodations, fees, taxes, meals, and ground transportation.As a Christian, I believe that it is our responsibility to care about the well-being of not only those who are involved in our everyday lives but also to those that are less fortunate like those in Cabo Verde and that is why I have such a passion to work hard to be able to volunteer and be a part of these children’s lives to make a difference in their society.
