Hi, my name is Erin and I am an experienced dog foster in the Cincinnati area. I'm accustomed to the thousands of dogs that come through Cincinnati Animal Care (the Hamilton County open intake shelter) every year. I'm used to the impossible task of looking through hundreds of dogs onsite to pick a foster to take home. I know that sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't, and that no-kill doesn't mean that a dog will not be euthanized if it no longer has quality of life due to shelter stress resulting in self harm or handling safety concerns. I know that I can't save them all and sometimes it's best to say goodbye with love. That said, I am in love with a dog named ZUKO!!!! Zuko (fka Goofy) has been repeatedly returned from adoption and has faced neglect to the point of abuse, yet he remains THE MOST LOVING dog I have ever fostered (and not adopted)!!!!
Zuko does not have a bite history, but he does have some quirks that can be barriers to placement in a home. Zuko's biggest barrier right now is that he is dog reactive on leash and incredibly strong, unruly, and incredibly hard to handle when he is in that state. Zuko already can't go to a home with younger kids or cats, so I would really like to remove the barrier that he has to go to a home with a yard that has a 6ft privacy fence! Zuko also has some separation anxiety and the ability to climb a 4ft chain link fence with ease and can break out of a regular crate. I am raising money (I spent WAY too much money on foster dogs last year) for this special boy to go through a training program with Roaming Rovers. I would take him through unless he were adopted and then the adopter could start taking him. OR I could finish the program if Zuko does not get adopted during it and then Roaming Rovers would provide a consultation and ongoing support to the new family! I really just want Zuko to show well because he is such perfection in the home and so loving with people! So drop a few bucks or share this post for me if you can! I have already adopted three of my CARE fosters out of over 50 in the last two years and CAN NOT adopt another! Like, even if this dog is trained to walk on his back legs and bring me coffee I can't adopt him! It's serious y'all! We have to find Zuko a home and I think this might be his best shot, he's running out of chances!
Don't forget, you can adopt Zuko and take advantage of his new training package! Let me know if you want to set up a meet and greet!
