Hello! We are a family that loves God and people! We are going to express that love this summer as we travel to Otino Waa Children’s Village in Uganda, Africa and we need your help. We need to raise $15,000 total to help make this trip possible. Family members committed to going include 3 siblings: LuCynda Dunning, Jerry Sipes and Kathy Sipes, LuCynda's husband Edward and daughter Kaylee, and Jerry's daughter Jorian. We are so excited for this opportunity, but still need a lot of help.

Backstory
For over two decades Northern Uganda was the battleground for civil war between the Ugandan Government and a rebel group called the LRA. The LRA committed atrocious acts including destroying villages and farms, raping, mutilating and violently murdering innocent people.
As an act of terror and to maintain their numbers, the LRA also abducted children, forcing them to commit violent acts including the murder of their own families. Approximately 35,000 children were abducted.
In 2002, missionaries heard of 78 orphans who were being targeted by the LRA to be abducted near the town of Lira. With the help of local leaders, they managed to rescue the 78 children and began to care for their basic needs. Throughout the year it became evident that these children needed long-term care. In 2003 Otino Waa Children's Village was created just outside Lira. Today, there are approximately 300 children who call Otino Waa home.
There are approximately 120 staff members, and 300 orphans at Otino Waa. They have over 450 students in their school (additional children from surrounding villages). Their on-site clinic cares for all of the staff and students, as well as the surrounding villages.

Why us?
The in-country directors for Otino Waa are Steve and Bridget Hurry. Bridget is a doctor and Steve manages the administrative duties at Otino Waa. Both show these orphans the love of Jesus daily. We personally know Steve and Bridget and we have wanted to help them since they moved there in 2012. Seven people from our family would like to go from July 29 to August 11 of this year - four adults (pastor, counselor, nurse, and community outreach) and three students (medical student, two high school students-one with a call to missions).
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs shows you have to first meet physical needs for food, water, shelter, and safety, before you can try to meet any emotional and ultimately spiritual needs. This is what Otino Waa is all about. They want to show these children how much God loves them, but first is meeting their basic needs. We want to help with this.

What will the money help accomplish?
Your donation will help cover our airfare, in country transportation needs, lodging, and medical costs. While there, we will be assisting in multiple tasks to support the work already going on – teach/tutor children at the school, staff an outreach medical clinic for surrounding villages, and other manual labor needed, such as cleaning, construction, technical, cooking, etc. We also plan to spend a lot of time interacting with the students and being an encouragement to the staff of Otino Waa.

Who is going?
Kaylee Dunning is a 19-year-old sophomore in college on the pre-med track. She wants to learn about the medical practices in other countries and do what she can to help those in need. She loves to travel and can’t wait to explore the world when she gets older. She is Edward and LuCynda’s daughter.
Jorian Sipes is a 16-year-old sophomore in high school with a call to missions. She is excited to meet children from a different culture, and show them the love of Jesus through her singing and art. She is Jerry’s daughter.
Kathy Sipes met Bridget and Steve through a house church at Common Ground in Indianapolis, and has wanted to serve with them in Otino Waa ever since they left. She works in community outreach and is excited to meet the needs of the Otino Waa staff and children. She is LuCynda and Jerry’s sister.
Edward & LuCynda Dunning have been married 25 years. Eddie is a registered nurse and Cynda is a counselor at a juvenile prison. Cynda loves to travel. Eddie struggles with some claustrophobia so travel is not easy for him but he does it to keep his wife happy. Both of us are interested in serving in the clinic, however Eddie has many other handyman skills that will be used to serve the folks at Otino Waa. God has blessed us beyond measure and we are looking forward to the opportunity to share what God has blessed us with, with others.
Jerry Sipes is the worship pastor at Richfield Church of the Nazarene, and is the father of six awesome kids. His heart for Jesus draws him to this opportunity to minister in a different way to the people in Uganda. He is gifted in administration and worship and looks forward to using these skills to assist Steve in the administrative aspect of Otino Waa. He is the brother of LuCynda and Kathy and Jorian's dad.
