It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic story of Maroof Zazai, who had been missing for 17 months before his body was sadly found in Greece.

Maroof was a young man full of hope, faith, and determination. Newly engaged, he left his home with the dream of building a better future in Europe — not only for himself but to support his family and loved ones. Like many in difficult circumstances, he made the heartbreaking decision to risk the journey across the sea, seeking peace and opportunity.

Tragically, Maroof never made it to safety. His life was cut short on the journey, and he was taken from us far too soon.

We are now raising funds for two important causes in Maroof’s memory:

To build a Sadaqah Jariyah — a water well in Maroof Zazai’s name, so that his soul may continue to receive reward through the ongoing benefit it brings to others

In Islam, giving water is one of the most beloved and lasting forms of charity. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

“The best form of charity is giving someone water to drink.”

— Sunan Ibn Majah, 3684

We pray that this well becomes a source of light and ongoing reward for Maroof in the hereafter, and a means of comfort for his family.
