Miss NY Teen USA +Hurricane Relief

Hello everyone!
My name is Sophie Wang and I am a state finalist for the Miss New York Teen USA Pageant, which still feels so surreal to me. I have attached a link to an article, where I describe the reasons as to why I joined the pageant, so please take a look at that!

There is definitely more to the story, so please reach out if you want to hear about that. In short, I wanted to join in order to bring a new discussion of culture, politics, social justice, feminism, etc to this large platform! I also want to highlight the work that I have been doing with organizations such as the YWCA, which has a mission of eliminating racism and promoting gender equity.
I have created this GoFundMe page for two reasons. One is that the pageant and the preparation leading up to it is VERY expensive. I hope that these funds will alleviate some of the financial burdens placed on my family. However, the second reason is one that I want to emphasize, as it embodies my passion to raise awareness about global issues. Many Carribean Islands are still coping with the damaging effects of Hurricane Irma and Maria. Many individuals lost their families and homes. Many don't have access to necessary resources such as water and electricity due to the detrimental effect of the natural disaster, as well as due to the lack of involvement/ attention on the issue as well.
As Co-President of my school's National Honor Society, I have been actively planning a fundraiser where our club sells wristbands with the phrase "I helped" translated into English, Spanish, and French. We will donate the funds to an organization that will help with hurricane relief in the Caribbean (organization TBD soon!). Therefore, I wanted to connect my work with my school community to both my pageant prep and the world surrounding me.
I am excited to announce that 1/3 of the funds raised on this page will be donated to the organization that will be helping hurricane relief in the Caribbean!!!!!!
In addition, if you donate before December 9th, your name will be printed on the official Miss New York pageant book as a sponsor.
