Miss Kell's Family FUNDay

We’ve all heard the stories before…people go to the doctor expecting to be told it’s nothing major and given a dose of antibiotics or advised to take it easy and soon they’ll be as good as new. Unfortunately, as with our friend Kellie, this isn’t always the case.
After feeling generally unwell and rundown for quite some time, Kel went to the GP and had some tests done. At first, the doctors were unsure what the problem was so Kel, being the hardworking trooper that she is, carried on with her everyday life. After a few more months of not feeling any better, she went back to undergo further tests. This time, the doctors were able to give her an answer and it wasn’t one anybody wanted to hear.
In August, Kel was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a particularly nasty form of blood cancer. The cancer doesn’t just affect the healthy blood cells, it also weakens the bones, damages the kidneys and increases the risk of infection.
After the diagnosis, Kel was unable to keep working in her role as cook at Essence Early Learning and the family were forced to live on one income. Her husband, Santo, and sons Giulian and Sebastian, have done everything they can to make ends meet, including selling the boys much loved trail bikes and the family campervan but now the time has come for them to say they need some help.
Kel is currently having to go to the GCUH every second day to receive dialysis treatment. Not only is this physically and emotionally exhausting but with the cost of transport and parking, it’s yet another financial drain.
Santo and Kel’s youngest son, Giulian is a budding violin prodigy who was talented enough to win a partial scholarship to TSS. Santo and Kel were already scrimping to ensure that he could retain his place at the school and now that they are relying solely on Santo’s income, it’s even more tough.
Kel has always been there for her friends and family, and now we’re asking them, along with people who haven’t met the Grasso clan, to help her out. We’re holding a fundraiser at Bischoff Pioneer Park in Nerang (the one with the ship) on the 20th of October and we’d love you to come along. There’ll be face painting, a sausage sizzle, a jumping castle and lots of games for the kids to play. As with everything, we’re unsure what the future holds for Kel, but we know that taking off some of the financial pressure will help while she focuses on recovery. Kel’s always been up for a bit of fun and that’s definitely something that we can provide!
