Miss a meal and donate

Hi all I'm Ross, owner and chef of a little cafe and takeaway. The news that the government voted to take away free school meals for the most vulnerable children in our society, has to be one of the most shocking decisions I've witnessed especially in the circumstances we face at the moment.

In my cafe we have, like many other hospitality venues in Liverpool and around the country decided to offer free meals to all children during half term.  I have seen and experienced amazing community spirit and support from my area since announcing this. However this vote by the government has hit a nerve and innocent children are being affected, and it just doesn't sit right.

I was made up with the response from those around us, but I was lying awake thinking of the absolute cheek of the tories and how they could justify their decision to vote to take a meal out of a child's mouth. Its just so morally wrong, it's scandalous and disgusting, it's just not human behavior!!

Its amazing to see hospitality venues all over the city joining in unison to offer free meals in some way shape or form over half term, when the industry itself is on its knees! But that shows you how much this has affected people. The disbelief that this is happening is truly hitting home and we can all see the injustice. We are talking about innocent children here, what have they done to deserve this? Absolutely nothing!!

So lying awake I did a lot of thinking, where can we go with this? In a week where we have seen gyms stand up to remain open in Liverpool, and raise money to help the cause and fight, it shows me the good in people will always come through.

Food is health and health is wealth! Its as simple as that, every single child should have the right to the very bare necessitie of survival which is food!

We need food to keep strong both physically and mentally. We need food for nutrients to help us grow, to help us fight infections and combat disease. Yet here we are in the middle of a pandemic and our government think its perfectly acceptable to take a meal from a child, making them weaker, breaking them mentally and leaving them susceptible to illnesses. For what! For what!!??

I'm thinking for a lot of us, we can afford to miss a meal. 20000 children in Liverpool have been told they will be missing meals next week that they simply can't, so here's my idea.

Can you miss a meal to help a child that can't. Let's all miss a meal, whatever you would of spent on that meal could you spare it for a hungry child and donate here

I've no idea of the target that I wish to aim for or achieve but even if we can help just a few then we have already done more than the tories

Let's face it we all know they aren't gonna help us. This is just half term it will come again for Christmas holidays and the anxiety and stress for families and children will already exist for that.

So please think bout missing a meal and donating so that a child doesn't have to, all donations will go to family centres so that it can be distributed to families and children that need it most

Please help share far and wide, scream from the roof tops, get it on your stories, tweet, retweet, share like, tell your friends, your family, influencers, the lot, miss a meal and donate, help end child food poverty now
