This fundraiser is being organized in our father's name on the occasion of his passing. Antonio Ibañez de Sendadiano contributed yearly to this Home for the Elderly in the heart of Guayaquil, Ecuador, his adoptive country. From early on, our father was drawn to charitable work, including missionary work in Africa and Ecuador. This charity was particularly close to his heart.

The nuns in this senior home take in the elderly who are abandoned and have no place to live. They care for them at their most vulnerable time, and make sure their last days are as comfortable and dignified as possible. In addition, they provide guidance and comfort to their souls in the Catholic faith. The donations help with food, medicine and utilities to run the home.

Every December, our father and his wife Betty would travel to Ecuador loaded with clothing, canes, reading glasses and medicine to give away to anyone in need. These are things that are harder or more expensive to buy in Ecuador. Leading up to their December trip to Ecuador, they would visit their favorite flea market for deals on items to take with them. They both had a keen eye for what was a good value and for what would be useful to someone in Ecuador. Mom carried the list with names and sizes. Dad was a bit more guided by what he saw and the possibility that it may be useful. The last time they were able to keep this tradition was December of 2014 and were not able to continue due to their decline in health. He returned from that trip with pneumonia. Both he and his wife have not been well enough to travel since then. We know that he would want us to carry on this tradition. He always said that he wanted to help the "Ancianitos", the elderly.

Every year, he would call the nuns to let them know they had arrived in Guayaquil. And every year he gave them $2,000. In his honor, we are planning to match any contributions received through this fundraiser. We hope to continue this tradition and to help the Sisters in their mission. If you are local or if you ever travel through Ecuador, we hope that you will consider paying them a visit and help, if you can.
