Mirla's Medical Expenses

Mirla is 35 yrs old mother recently diagnosed with end-stage kidney failure and Achalasia. She was rushed into ICU on June 8th needing fluid removed from her lungs, a blood transfusion and dialysis right away.  They tried to do a procedure to try to help the Achalasia, but while in the operating room, her esophagus ruptured and her lung collapsed.  She was rushed to Houston Methodist Hospital in the Medical Center and into an emergency surgery to save her life.  Dr.'s were able to save her life, but she then had to have 2 other surgeries to be able to fix the procedure that went wrong.  While in 3 month stay in ICU, she had 4 other surgeries that had to do with her lungs and kidneys. They informed her that she will need to be on dialysis for the rest of her life or until she can get a kidney transplant. Her husband, Antonio, is already in the works talking with her case worker about donating his kidney to her, or how to go about finding another match if possible. Apparently, this process will take a few months before the transplant will be possible. For the mean time Mirla will be having to go to dialysis 3 times a week, 4 hrs each day, until the transplant is approved.

For those of you that don't know what Achalasia is, Achalsia is an auto immune disease that affects your esophagus that has no cure. The lower esophageal sphincter (LES) is a muscular ring that closes off the esophagus from the stomach. If you have achalasia, your LES fails to open up during swallowing, which it’s supposed to do. This leads to a backup of food within your esophagus. This condition can be related to damaged nerves in your esophagus or the LES. People with achalasia will often have trouble swallowing or feel like food is stuck in their esophagus. This symptom can cause coughing and raise the risk of aspiration, or inhaling or choking on food, even throwing up anything and everything that you may eat or drink. There is no cure for this, only procedures to make this manageable for her.

We would really appreciate any help we can get to offset some medical , raise money for the kidney transplant, transportation and related costs which are not covered by insurance. We are calling on the generosity of family, friends, neighbors and strangers to help us. With your help, we can reach this goal together

Thank you for keeping Mirla and her family in your thoughts and prayers...

From her husband Antonio, daughters; Jazmine, Jaelie, Alexi, Annaliese, Alyssa.. son; Antonio.
