Campbell Hoskins’ Eagle Project
My name is Campbell Hoskins. I am 16 and a student at Miramonte High School. I am a Life Scout in Troop 237 and working toward the Eagle Scout Rank.
Part of becoming an Eagle is to lead a project that benefits the community, from planning to completion.
I am a member of the Mats Baseball team, so I chose to create something that could be a lasting legacy for Mats Baseball for years to come.
I am seeking financial support from those who have been members of the Mats Baseball family to help make my Eagle project a reality.
I will create a sign that welcomes and directs visitors to the Mats baseball field and represents Mats Baseball. Currently there is no sign marking the entrance to the field, and it’s unclear how to actually enter the baseball area.
The wooden sign will be approx. 9 x 3.5, then mounted on two 6x6 posts that will stand 12 feet from the ground so it is visible over the chain fencing in front of it. Carved lettering and border will be sandblasted out from a 2” thick cedar wood slab. The whole design with lettering and border will be protrude out from sandblasted background and will be painted in school colors.
The location of the new sign is directly adjacent to the existing Track stadium sign, along the short pathway to the Baseball field, to the left of the main walkway toward the Football Stadium. The sign will stand will be visible as one comes through the walkway/tunnel area.
After acquiring several bids on the construction of the sandblasted wood sign, I’ve estimated the total material cost to be $2700, which includes the actual large custom sandblasted wood sign, solid 6x6 pressure treated posts, paint, and other supplies for installation. All labor and manpower will be provided by me and other volunteers, including Scouts and hopefully some peers and baseball players. Miramonte Boosters Club will contribute $500 toward the cost, my parents contribution TBD, and I will be donating $200 of my money I've earned myself.
I have received approval and support from Coach Hodges, VP Jan Carlson, Principal Julie Parks, AUHSD building representative, and Troop and District representatives from Boy Scouts of America.
Upon securing funding, I plan to order the raw sign and my goal is to complete installation by Spring of 2018, hopefully in time for Mats Baseball season.
Thank you for your support of my project and Mats Baseball!
