Miracles for Marilee

Marilee Heaston, a grandmother, mother to my brother and I, wonderful wife of 51 years to our father, has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. These events have taken my family by surprise. She exhibited her first symptoms at the end of November, slurred speech and general confusion followed by a violent seizure moments after arriving at the emergency room. Many tests and worrisome nights passed before we were given the diagnosis. 3 masses, 2 of which were inoperable: one deep in the center of her brain and one on the brain stem. The third mass located near her left temple was operable. A biopsy was taken from the mass, which was able to be nearly completely removed. 


Many of you know Marilee is an artist, and loves to quilt. She has been teaching for as long as I can remember, but for some time now she has been volunteering for Quilts of Honor, a service for veterans. Quilts are hand made for each veteran, and presented to them in a ceremony, honoring them and their family for their  service.  This may be her proudest endeavor. 




Mom has been able to be home after a quick trip back to the hospital. She is relatively comfortable and her medications are keeping the seizures and swelling at bay. 

Her next steps are the most difficult and the cause of this fundraiser. Beginning Jan 6, 2020, she will begin radiation and chemotherapy in an attempt to improve her quality of life, and to give her more time to spend with family and friends. Any donation will go directly to offset costs during this difficult time. The copay alone is nearly $5,000 for treatment, excluding the many medications and travel costs she is sure to incur.
