A Pink Flamingo Miracle for Mara

Donation protected
 AN UPDATE:  Dec. 28, 2016:
Mara has now reached (and even exceeded) her fundraising goal of $15,000. Her long awaited pink rimmed wheelchair has been purchased! Any money donated from now on will also go into the Mara Rugh Trust Fund to be used for lifetime maintenance of her " Pink Flamingo Miracle chair".

Mara sends this message:  "Heartfelt thank-you to each and every person:  family, friends, and some people who don't even know me!  Each of you donated your own money to help me get a customized wheelchair that will help me be comfortable and free!"

Mara's new wheelchair arrived actually in time for Christmas!
We will soon post a picture of Mara in her chair.  A poster is being made to present to Mara, showing all the names of those who donated on gofundme, those who donated at the Bethel College Fundraiser, and those who simply sent Mara a check.  We will also have a category to recognize names we do not have as some gave annonymously and some simply dug into their pockets and gave cash.

Mara wants each to know:  "I am in awe at the generosity shown to me; you have moved me deeply, and have helped me "Beat the Odds".....I promise you all that I will remain upbeat, always appreciating the kindness you have shown in my time of need....and in turn doing what I can for others.

I especially TREASURE, the PINK FLAMINGO BLANKET, hand-made by the Bethel College Students, with the cutest pink flamingo on it that I have every seen.  It hangs on my door, for all to see...it is just beautiful!

Happy Holiday time to each of you who may celebrate or just recognize sacred time in a variety of different ways. God be with each of you!  Always know that you---my miracle workers--- are in my heart and prayers."
                                    Love, Mara

Past Note to announce a change of plans:  A recent re-evaluation of Mara's condition has shown that  it is now not safe for Mara to operate a power wheelchair.  This was a huge dissappointment to Mara.  However, like the pink flamingo, Mara just revised her survival strategy. "I'm a realist," she stated, as she revived her dream. Now she is getting  a very special hot pink manual wheelchair, that has a custom molded seat to help her sit up straight.  If you've seen the photo of Mara in the South Bend Tribune, it is clear that she needs some seating support that will allow her to sit up straight.

When the molding of her new seat was being completed, Mara's voice became stronger, as she was able to sit up straight and allow more air into her lungs.  Everyone of us were excited, but no one more than Mara!

Mara was able to put a down payment on her new chair, due to the funding already donated from friends on GO FUND ME.  As a result,  her chair will be READY by CHRISTIMAS 2016!

Mara has had tears in her eyes, when she looks at her GO FUND ME page on the computer in her room.  She has stated, "When I get this chair, it will remind me everyday of each one who has so lovingly given, so that I might be more comfortable and free."
