MIRACLE MICROPREEMIES!!

Hi, our names are Robert and Nancy.

Our daughter Megan and son-in-law Nicolas welcomed their second set of twins in just over a year. The first set of twins, from here on out referred to as the Alpha twins, were born on December 12, 2021. Today, the Alpha twins are thriving although born prematurely at 32 weeks. What we thought was a lot for any parent or baby to go through, it is nothing compared to the second set of twins, from here on out referred to as the Bravo twins, born on December 24, 2022.

At 24 weeks and 5 days, Megan started experiencing preterm labor. She immediately went to the hospital to try and stop the labor. Within a couple of days, the doctors realized that Ezra’s umbilical cord only had a minimal amount of blood flowing through. Due to the danger to him, the babies had to be delivered immediately. Because it had been a little over a year since her first c-section the doctors performed the more difficult up-and-down c-section. Thankfully Megan came through okay.

The Bravo twins, Melody and Ezra, were both born at 1.7 lbs. and started their fight for life on the very first night. these babies are in incubators needing everything about them monitored. They are both intubated.

Melody, only a few hours old had to have an emergency chest tube because her lung collapsed. Melody also was quickly diagnosed with a brain bleed. At the time it was a level 3 brain bleed which has its risks but much less than a level 4 so we were thankful for that at least. Then within a few days, we were told that she had a perforated bowel and needed surgery. Melody’s surgery went well. Since then Melody has also had surgery to repair a hole in her heart. The doctors have said that it would be at least two more months before Melody could go home.

Megan and Nicolas have been told Ezra may not make it through the night a few times. Each time there was nothing they could do but wait, pray, and hope. At first, Ezra seemed to be doing okay only having normal preemie issues. Then we found out that Ezra also had a perforated bowel and would need surgery. Ezra’s surgery went well for repairing the bowel but due to the amount of blood they needed to infuse him with, we were told he now had a rare level 4 brain bleed and the blood that was escaping was damaging his brain. We would not have any idea how much damage until we can get him an MRI. Because Ezra is intubated doing an MRI would be more difficult and serious. When they finally decided to attempt the MRI Ezra’s brain bleed was blocking the view of the brain. So, we do not know how much damage it will be until the brain bleed breaks up more. Megan and Nicolas were told you could see 10 different babies with the same brain bleed and have 10 different results, from severe Cerebral Palsy to a few learning disabilities. He has had several surgeries to drain the fluid around his brain and is struggling to digest his food. Our hope is to have Ezra home by October.

There have been many highs and lows with one doctor saying something in the morning and another saying something different in the afternoon. Things can change quickly when a baby is this small. Megan and Nicolas had to quickly learn not to take the highs too well and the lows too bad because they can change almost instantly. The hospital and its staff have also been incredible. They constantly monitor and examine Melody and Ezra, are always willing to answer our questions, and make sure Megan and Nicolas have the support they need from the hospital as every day is a roller coaster.

The strength of these two tiny babies, now seven weeks old and three pounds, is amazing. We see God’s work in their daily progress and know the prayers of our family and friends, our church family and coworkers, prayer groups, and even strangers are making a difference. It is truly a miracle what they have been through and survived.

Please continue to pray for Ezra and Melody as they fight their daily battle to live, Celeste and Mateo as they too are the family’s miracle babies and are in this fight as well. Finally, Megan and Nicolas give them strength to care for their two sets of twins through this very difficult time.

We have created this GoFund Me page as many have reached out wanting to help their family with the mounting medical and other costs. Although some of the medical costs are covered by insurance many things are not. If we hit our goal it will allow Megan and Nicolas more time away from work to be right by the Alpha and Bravo twins side in this fight for as long as possible, it will help them with all they need to survive and reduce the financial stress when dealing with so much elsewhere.
