Rob Mooney is a loving husband, a father of five, a grandfather of two, and a friend of many. His whole life he has strived to be there for his friends and to provide for his family, but now it is our turn to be there for him.
Rob was diagnosed with renal failure in 2014. He started his journey of trying to get on the kidney transplant list in September of 2017. The process of getting your health cleared to even be put on the list is pretty lengthy. He has been to every doctor you can think of, including the dentist!
The last doctor on the list was the cardiologist. Unfortunately, he tossed a wrench in our plans. He thinks Rob has some blockage in his heart. In order to find out what exactly is going on, he needs a CT scan. The CT scan requires a type of dye that will hurt his kidneys even more. This means that they won’t run the CT scan until he is on dialysis. We had hoped to push dialysis off for as long as we could, however we are now being forced to speed up the process.
Last week, Rob went into surgery to get a fistula in his arm. It takes about 6 weeks for the healing process, and to ensure that the fistula will take to him. When it is fully healed he will then start dialysis. Like I previously mentioned, we will then be able to move forward with the CT scan. The doctors will be able to look at his heart and assess anything out of order. This is the last step before being cleared for the waiting list.
As you all know, medical expenses pile up quickly and being forced to miss days of work for countless appointments do not make it any easier. Eventually, he will be forced to stop working altogether. And through all of this, everyday bills and expenses do not go away. Rob still has a family to provide for with two young kids still in school and sports. I know we will get through this. Rob will receive a new kidney and be back to normal before we know it. Until then, anything you can provide will help - whether it be a kidney, money, or prayers.
