Hello my name is Sherry Ancrum,
I am the grandmother of the “Miracle Baby” Ocean. Before the age of one, my grand daughter has been through the most horrendous atrocities you could fathom. On December 5th 2020, at 5 months old, Ocean was the victim of a single gunshot wound to the right side of her head. Her mother Molly was killed in the barrage of 23 bullets fired into the car they were passengers, also injuring her now 2 year old sister. The police on site of the crime, rushed Ocean to the hospital for a 7 and a half hour emergency surgery. Fortunately, salvaging the space holding the brain, but it can not be dealt any more damage.
Since the initial surgery in December 2020, Ocean has been in and out of the surgery every other month. She suffers from neurological damage, daily seizures, lack of control and weakness throughout her body and particularly the left side. Ocean requires 24/7 care, to meet this requirement I have had to leave my job and care for her full time. This incident saddens me because she was injured, before she learned how to hold a bottle, pull herself up on her own, or any the smallest functions a baby can accomplish.
