Minuteman Common Restoration

I'm Thomas Onishi from Scouts BSA Troop 3 Groton, and I am working on an Eagle Scout Project to restore the fence surrounding Minuteman Common.  The fence consists of 118 wooden rails held in place by 472 hand-forged iron brackets.  Minuteman Common is located on the corner of Main Street and Lowell Road.  In 1775, Minuteman Common served as the meeting area for the Groton Minutemen who fought the British at the Battle of Lexington and Concord.

My project benefits the Groton Parks Department, which oversees the upkeep and use of the common.  Funds raised will go towards the purchase of materials needed to restore the fence, including the fabrication of replacement steel brackets to attach the rails to the granite posts, and sanding and painting supplies.  Any excess funds will be donated to the Parks Department for future maintenance of the fence.

My fellow scouts and I have been and will be supplying all the labor to restore this fence to its former glory.  It has been more than 15 years since it was last painted.  Your support for my project not only helps me in my quest for Eagle, but also helps restore a very visible historic landmark in our town.

I thank you for your support.
