Battle Creek VA Mini-Golf Rehab

My name is Jeff Richards; I am a Life Scout from Troop 337 out of Marshall, Michigan and I’m working on my Eagle Scout project. My project is designed to benefit Veterans in Michigan by renovating the 9-hole mini golf course at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center in Battle Creek, Michigan. I chose this project because my grandparents are veterans, and I wanted to pick an Eagle project that would make a difference in the Veterans' lives. This current course at the Battle Creek VA is run down and nasty. But it was designed smartly to be accessible to disabled veterans. The course is completely flat and has wide gates connecting each hole to the next, allowing for wheelchair use. Along with being accessible, the course is also part of the rehabilitation for the veterans that are at the Battle Creek VA Medical Center.
When I asked the representatives at the VA if there was any project I could do, they told me that renovating the mini golf course was a high priority because the course is in very poor condition and it was important to so many patients. This massive renovation will include: replacing the carpet greens, replacing the bumpers that line the course, replacing the spring hinges on each of the gates, replacing the score posts at each hole, and doing some landscaping including 3 wooden sculptures that will be placed along the course. Unfortunately, this project is not funded by the VA, so I am forced to raise the funds on my own to renovate it. To finish the fundraising for the project, I must raise $11,000-$12,000. I know that this is expensive, but I promise that with these funds I will refurbish the course so that patients and their families wil enjoy using it during their rehabilitation. They have sacrificed so much for their country, and I just want to help them so they can enjoy being outside for parts of their rehabilitation.
