<div>The Center for Study and Research on Women and Gender in Guinea-Bissau (CEPEMG-GB) was born from the concerns and experiences of a group of young Guineans who, after completing their undergraduate and graduate studies in Brazil, returned to the country with a common goal: to transform into concrete action the gaps they had encountered during their academic journeys.

<div>While writing their monographs and dissertations, these students faced a troubling reality: the scarcity of data and references on women’s participation in politics, statistics on violence against women and girls, and other aspects related to the condition of women in Guinea-Bissau. This lack of information not only hindered academic production but also limited the development of effective public policies to address gender inequalities.

<div>Out of this void emerged the conviction to create a dedicated space for research, reflection, and action. Thus, CEPEMG-GB was established as an academic center for research and outreach, with a trans-, pluri- and interdisciplinary approach, aiming to:

<div>Produce and systematize scientific knowledge on women and gender;

<div>Offer training and capacity building for women, strengthening their social, cultural, economic, and political empowerment;

<div>Establish partnerships with universities, higher education schools, institutes, and civil society organizations, creating a network of knowledge and practices for gender equity in Guinean society.

<div>Within CEPEMG-GB, the Biblioteca Mindjer (Women’s Library) was created, the first of its kind in the country. It was conceived as a space for reading, research, and the valorization of women’s intellectual production. Its mission is to expand access to works written by women across multiple fields of knowledge , from gender equity, intersectionality, womanism, environment, and decoloniality, to history, politics, social sciences, philosophy, mathematics, and literature.

<div>By gathering and making these works accessible, the Biblioteca Mindjer becomes not only a space for consultation but also an instrument of social transformation. Its purpose is to strengthen women’s representation in literature and academia, inspiring new generations of women to write, research, and occupy spaces of knowledge.

<div>Beyond being a place for reading, the library also envisions a mentorship program for academic writing, designed for students and young researchers, building a bridge between theory and practice, reading and production, history and future.

<div>At this stage, we are reaching out to people of goodwill to help us realize our dream of establishing the Biblioteca Mindjer. We currently lack financial resources, and any contribution, no matter the amount, will make a difference in bringing this vision to life. Together, we can build the first library in Guinea-Bissau dedicated to women’s voices, knowledge, and empowerment.

<div>O Centro de Estudo e Pesquisa sobre Mulher e Género na Guiné-Bissau (CEPEMG-GB) nasceu da inquietação e da experiência vivida por um grupo de jovens guineenses que, após concluírem os seus estudos de graduação e pós-graduação no Brasil, regressaram ao país com um objetivo comum: transformar em ação concreta as lacunas que encontraram durante os seus percursos académicos.

<div>Durante a escrita de monografias e dissertações, esses estudantes depararam-se com uma realidade preocupante: a escassez de dados e referências sobre a participação das mulheres na política, os índices de violência contra mulheres e meninas, bem como outros aspetos ligados à condição feminina na Guiné-Bissau. Essa ausência de informações dificultava não só a produção académica, mas também o desenvolvimento de políticas públicas eficazes para enfrentar desigualdades de género.

<div>Foi a partir desse vazio que nasceu a convicção de criar um espaço próprio de investigação, reflexão e ação. Assim surge o CEPEMG-GB, um centro académico com natureza de investigação e extensão, de caráter trans, pluri e interdisciplinar, que se propõe a:

<div>Produzir e sistematizar conhecimento científico sobre mulher e género; Oferecer capacitação e formação para mulheres, fortalecendo o seu empoderamento social, cultural, económico e político;

<div>Estabelecer parcerias com universidades, escolas superiores, institutos de educação e organizações da sociedade civil, promovendo uma rede de saberes e práticas para a equidade de género na sociedade guineense.

<div>No seio do CEPEMG-GB, surge a Biblioteca Mindjer (Biblioteca Mulher), a primeira do género no país, concebida como um espaço de leitura, pesquisa e valorização da produção intelectual feminina. A biblioteca tem como missão ampliar o acesso a obras escritas por mulheres, em diferentes áreas do conhecimento, desde equidade de género, interseccionalidade, mulherismo, meio ambiente e decolonialidade, até história, política, ciências sociais, filosofia, matemática e literatura.

<div>Ao reunir e disponibilizar essas obras, a Biblioteca Mindjer torna-se não apenas um espaço de consulta, mas também um instrumento de transformação social. Seu propósito é fortalecer a representatividade feminina na literatura e na academia, incentivando novas gerações de mulheres a escrever, pesquisar e ocupar os espaços do conhecimento.
