Millie's Microcephaly Journey

Our dear little Millie was born with a condition called Microcephaly. Microcephaly is a neurodevelopmental disorder ( a problem with the way the brain or nervous system grows). Microcephaly results in a smaller than usual head and brain which can cause intellectual disability and neurological issues and problems with muscle stiffness, control and balance.
Millie has been diagnosed with severe global developmental delay. She is delayed in all areas of development and has weekly therapy sessions to work on goals to help with her needs.  Millie a week before Christmas last year was also diagnosed with Autism. With all the challenges Millie faces daily as mentioned above and including hypotonia (low muscle tone) and strabismus, Millie is a happy little girl who is an inspiration to all of those around her. She is always smiling and she does not let much dull her beautiful and fun loving nature. Since Millie was born we have attended regular medical appointments and therapy sessions to aide Millie's development. Millie also attends an ECDP which supports her needs and helps her build skills for when she goes to school.  One of the biggest things for us as a family is supporting Millie with her needs in our home environment. Millie is very active and has very high sensory needs. She seeks feedback in many different ways. We would love nothing more than to be able to create a more safe play environment for Millie in the comfort of her own home where her sensory needs are met and also supporting her development. This fund would allow us to be able to do that.   
As this is a rare condition, we as parents have at times found it a struggle to get direct support and I would love if awareness about Microcephaly was promoted further so that any other families going through similar situations could connect and come together in supporting each other and other beautiful children like our Millie.
