Hello my name is Joshua I am a Veteran of the United States Navy. I served our great Nation honorably from 1994 to 1998, my enlistment took me overseas for one tour in the Persian Gulf. Towards the end of my enlistment I was severely depressed and suicidal, within 6 months of trying to fit in to the civilian life I made my first attempt of ending my life. I have; for the better part of 20 years struggled with my mental health diagnosis, recovery from active addiction, and homelessness. I am finally at a place in my journey where I am living a full life in recovery from destructive behaviors. For the past 3 years I have been involved with 2 organizations that help Veterans with disabilities learn and enjoy the game of golf. Golf is an activity that promotes comradery and is a great way for anybody really, but Veterans especially, to combat isolation. No good life choices are born in isolation, in my experience. Both nonprofit organizations that I am a part of are an awesome source of gear and regular group pro golf lessons, and regular practice but fall short in helping individual veterans with green fees. Please don't let me paint a picture that these programs aren't a blessing, they are. There are so many opportunities to play at a discount veteran rate and many golf courses are happy to do this for our Veteran population. I am not always able to afford the discounted rate, so I thought how can I meet that need for myself and as many of my fellow Veterans as possible. Any funds that are donated will help Veterans that are low income with the funds to play regular golf. Supporting their recovery journey, and hopefully heal within with the brothers and sisters they served with. I am very passionate about the game of golf and how it has enhanced my life and feeling a part of life and community. I hope you are able to help me help myself and our Veteran community.
