We are starting this page on behalf of our friend (and my best friend of 28 years) Ognien Klikovac and his family. Ognien’s daughter, Mila, is 4 years-old and was born with cerebral palsy. She is a little ray of sunshine, however, she has difficulty speaking, can’t walk or sit on her own, or help herself to a glass of water. She adores her twin sister, Lena (pictured above right), but unlike Lena who is completely healthy, Mila is 100% dependent on her parents, Ognien and Milena.
Mila and her family live in Belgrade, Serbia. We started this page on her behalf because the Go Fund Me platform is not supported in Serbia. What will happen is: I will collect funds on Ognien’s behalf, withdraw the money every two months, and send the money to him via Chase. As mentioned, Ognien is my best friend from childhood (I grew up in Serbia and it is a place we visit often as my parents still live there).
Mila needs rehabilitation treatments at the Renona Center in Surovce, Slovakia. The Renona Center specializes in the treatment and rehabilitation of people with cerebral palsy. The Renona Center is a six-hour drive (about 340 miles) from where Mila lives.
The treatments as well as surgery should help Mila get better and improve her strength so that she can sit on her own, drink water by herself, and gain a little independence. The treatment consists of:
-Hippo therapy- with horse riding- goal is to get strong and functional body core and to be able to sit on her own
-Oxygen therapy-working treatment with help of oxygen, helps with fine movements and concentration
-Renona suit - movement therapy in special suit that helps make and learn basic movements
Mila needs rehabilitation treatment every 3 months for the next two years. The treatment lasts 12 days and costs $3,200. The charge to stay at the center is an extra $28 per day, for a total of $3,545 for treatment and stay. In addition to periodic medical physical treatments, Mila needs surgery. The surgery that Mila needs can be performed in Serbia by foreign (Russian) doctors, or in Moscow, Russia. The period of surgery and recovery time is 4 days, and the cost of surgery is $3,294.
Her surgery is scheduled for June and her next appointment at the Renona Center is on August 28. The grand total cost of rehab treatments and surgery over the next two years is approximately $22,400. This amount is equal to 5x the average annual salary in Serbia. We want to help this great family overcome this financial obstacle so they can concentrate on helping Mila become a little more independent. Any amount you can afford to contribute is appreciated!
