Mike's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Mike Sotolongo and his wife Kollin ventured down to Jamaica January 10th, 2018 on a trip with Mike's company. It was a very anticipated opportunity for them as they had not been able to go on a vacation together since starting their family nearly 8 years ago.  A few days prior to leaving for the trip Mike started feeling off.  He was sick the day before prior to leaving but shrugged it off as having caught a bug as it was going around this season. Once they arrived they had a few good hours in the sun and sand together but that evening Mike took a turn for the worse. He was very ill for nearly two full days in the hotel room, still thinking he had a virus. Saturday night he was having terrible right sided pain so Kollin decided to take him to the hospital. It was very scary having to go to a third world country hospital but that was their only option.  After nearly 24 hours of sitting around (as things move slow in Jamaica) a CT scan was finally performed. It revealed what everyone had suspected, appendicitis. The surgeon decided to take Mike into surgery that evening. Once in surgery it was revealed that Mike's appendix had ruptured and had been that way for nearly 2 days! Miraculously the contents of the infection were contained in a small sac. This was a miracle as any rupture over 8 hours with that amount of infection should have taken his life. The following day following surgery Mike began to get violently ill again. Kollin had never seen him look so grim as he was at this point.  The Jamaican medical staff was not responding to their concerns and it was now imperative Mike get back to the states. Kollin went into true boss mode using every resource she had and within hours had Air Vac coming from Florida to get him home! Once Mike got into the states they determined he had bowel paralysis and an abcess with fluid around it and his body was holding onto copius amounts of bile.  After getting the proper medical attention Mike made a 180 degrees turn around. Mike's life was truly saved! Currently there are many more obstacles to overcome as he will need IV nutrition, a drain for the abscess placed and possible upcoming surgery for a partial bowl blockage that remains. Mike and Kollin are so very grateful for everyones' thoughts and prayers! I am asking if anyone is willing to donate financially to help ease the burden they are already carrying with the medical bills that will be coming their way. Mike still has a long road of recovery ahead and will not be able to work to provide the needs for the family so any help is truly appreciated! Travel expenses will also be accumulated as Mike is based at a medical center in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Kollin will be traveling back and forth to Indiana to see their three small children. Thank you everyone for your love and support to the Sotolongos!!
