Send Mike Back To School! :)

Hello, my name is Mike and I'm trying to raise some money so I can go back to school.

After graduating college with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2016 I have been working as a carpenter in the Bay Area for a Design company. While I enjoy the job and working with my hands, I’ve realized that it’s not what I want to do with my life. It’s not paying the bills in the way that feels good to me. I’d like to reorient my life in a direction that allows me more freedom and mobility in life. I plan on accomplishing this by entering into the exciting and rapidly growing field of technology here in San Francisco.

So, on April 23rd I am going to be moving out of my home in San Fransisco to embark on a journey down to live out of the back of my car down in Santa Monica, California to start coding boot camp.

What is a coding boot camp, you ask?

The boot camp I will be attending is called General Assembly. It is full time immersive (12 hours a day for three months) educational environment where students learn skills necessary to become full stack Junior Web Developers. General Assembly also provides career coaching and job placement assistance after graduation.

Why do you want to do this, Mike?

I did some web development during my time in college. I really enjoyed it and know it will be a sustainable and fulfilling way for me to spend my days. I have always enjoyed problem-solving and building things, whether it was legos as a kid, or more recently building stages for music festivals, and web development is a great way for me to scratch that itch while making a good living.

3 Year Plan

The plan is to graduate in mid-July and find a job by mid-October. I plan to stay at this job for 2-3 years, gain coding knowledge and real-world experience by working with veteran web developers. Then, after I have made a name for myself, I plan to transition into freelance, contract-based work. This will allow me to do two things: 1. Pursue my lifelong dream of traveling by letting me work remotely from almost anywhere in the world, and 2. make my own schedule, allowing me to pursue more creative endeavors, like teaching yoga or building large scale art projects for music festivals.

Outcome Statistics

85% of graduates from General Assembly are placed in a full-time job in their field within 120 days after completing the boot camp. The average salary for a Junior Web Developer in San Francisco is $100,482.

The boot camp itself costs $14,995. Your money will be going towards my tuition and living expenses during the 3 months.

By investing in me you will be investing in my future. A future full of life, stability, comfort, and joy.

If you’ve read this far, I’m really appreciative and grateful to you for considering donating to my cause. if you want to help spread the word please share my link to your facebook timeline or amongst your friends via email :)

Thanks!

Love,

Mike
