Fund Mike's Battle With Rare Cancer

Mike’s Journey:
Mike’s unexpected journey began just a few short weeks ago with what was thought to be a quick trip to the emergency room for intense abdominal pain.  Unfortunately, this led to a two week hospital stay where doctors removed three feet of his colon and delivered devastating news to Mike and his family.   Sadly, the mass that had been found in his colon had metastasized from another organ, and he was diagnosed with an extremely rare appendix cancer. This particular type of cancer is challenging to medical experts.  It has no known cause and is very difficult to treat because it is not typically discovered until it progresses into advanced stages, as it has done with Mike. Because Mike’s cancer has spread to other organs, it is considered a Stage IV appendix cancer and requires an immediate and aggressive treatment plan.
Further Complications:
Mike is not only fighting Stage IV appendix cancer, but he is also diabetic, which further complicates his current health.  Mike was diagnosed with Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes (JD) at the age of three. Little is known about the relationship between Type 1 juvenile diabetes and cancer. Because of this, there will be many hurdles, known and unknown, he will have to battle.
Mike’s Need:
Mike works as a safety compliance specialist at CHI Health Immanuel Hospital and his wife, Michelle, is an elementary teacher.  Together they support their teenage daughter and young son on a combined income. Unfortunately, with months of chemotherapy treatments and the possibility of adding more extensive treatments necessary for Mike to fight this rare form of cancer, finances have become a struggle with the numerous treatments, prescriptions, appointments, tests, loss of wages and life in general.
