Mike Wilson's Battle with Cancer

Donation protected
As many of you probably know, my Dad, Mike Wilson, is a caring Father of 6 children, Grandfather of 2, a loving Husband, and a very hard worker, whose life has been modeled by his determination and willingness to face the many difficulties he’s encountered throughout it, for the sake of those he loves. All this conditioning did little though to prepare him for the unexpected and devastating news that was coming next.

In February of this year, while my Dad and I were installing a new microwave, and oven for his Mom - my Grandma, she poured us a glass of water, and felt a decently large bump on her neck. We didn't think much of it at the time, except that she should get it looked at just in case it was something worse than we expected. Well... the news was worse than we expected. She returned home after many scans, and tests with the terrible announcement that she was diagnosed with Non-small Cell Stage IV Lung cancer. The tests revealed that her cancer was spreading at a terrifying speed - two years before this news, she had a routine CAT Scan done to look for signs of cancer as it runs in the family; nothing was found. The new scans and tests however, showed cancerous masses spread throughout her body, and that aggressive Chemo and Invasive Radiation therapy needed to begin immediately.

None of us could believe the news we were hearing, and my Dad knew he had to be there with his Mom while she was fighting through this awful disease. My Dad sacrificed all of his savings, and vacation time that he worked so hard for. He travelled up to Michigan from his Home in Georgia as often as he was able to, so that he could be with his Mom as often as possible, to help in any way he could. A few months later, when we were all trying to adjust to this change in our lives, our family was dealt another unimaginable blow...

On May 1st, 2017, after visiting an E.N.T. (Ear, Nose, and Throat), and many other Doctors for a persistent pain in his throat, my Dad was diagnosed with Stage 4A Squamous Cell Carcinoma cancer. The Doctors mentioned this form of cancer is sometimes operable, possibly allowing them to remove the entire mass to prevent spreading, but that they would have to do further tests to determine this possibility. We prayed, and begged for some good news. However... the cancer, located at the base of his tongue, was found to have spread to three lymph nodes in his neck, and was determined to be inoperable due to its location. We did receive a glimmer of hope though; this form of cancer is known to respond well to treatment, and my Dad has learned throughout the years that the only way to get past a difficult situation, is to fight through it, and give it all that you've got.

Today, June 29th, he finished the last of his 33 Radiation treatments, and tomorrow he's gonna knock out his 7th, and last Chemo. He can soon start the healing process... but now is the time he needs us, as his family, and as his friends, to help him. During his treatments, he's been stubbornly fighting as much as possible to still put on his boots and work, but as the treatments progressed, so did the pain...

He's been off from work now, without pay, for two and a half weeks, and isn't expected to be back to work till July 17th, another two and a half weeks... With his savings gone, and his last paycheck dwindling, he's running out of money to get by day-to-day...

I'm asking that we all pitch in however much we can, to help the man whose helped so many of us. Right now, he's responsible for paying $4,500 Out-of-Pocket towards his medical bills before his insurance will cover anything, and has over $3,000 in bills coming up for daily living expenses (rent, utilities, medications, etc...). Please help him fight through this last known obstacle, but please only give what you can easily spare, the well-being of his friends and family is what his whole fight is for.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for any support... and please pray that in three months, when my Dad gets his P.E.T. Scan results back, that they show that he won his fight.

Sincerely,

-His son, Michael Wilson III
