Michael was recently diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis is a progressive disease that causes lung scarring and is eventually terminal. The cause of the disease is not actually known but is believed to be linked to factors such as exposure to smoke, toxins and hazardous chemical exposure.
The only treatment is a lung transplant which is what the future hopefully holds. He was diagnosed in June 2017 and had 80% lung volume capacity at that time. He was retested in January 2018 and revealed that his lung capacity had dropped to 52%. The care and treatment of the disease now has him on a medicine called Esbriet which will hopefully slow the progression of the disease. The medicine costs approximately $8000.00 a month and is partially covered by insurance.
We at the California Conference of Arson Investigators would like to gather our community and help Mike during these challenging times. Any help is greatly appreciated.
