Mike Smith - Medical Expenses

It is with great sadness that we share this news. June 16, 2020 Mike (James Michael) Smith died after knowingly fighting pancreatic cancer for the last five months. Mike, being the private man that he was, preferred to keep this news to the immediate family and a few close friends.

For the past 40 years, between Panther Creek Campground and Turkey Creek Campground, Mike touched the lives of so many. Ever the consummate host, through his hard work and laid-back attitude, he built a beautiful space for folks to escape to the great outdoors of Western North Carolina...  giving campers the opportunity to create wonderful memories to last a lifetime.

Mike was a kind, caring, gentle, and loving individual. He was generous to a fault, ever-ready to help his family, friends, and strangers alike. He never expected anything in return.

Mike leaves behind his wife, Ramelle, of 45 years and his devoted dog, Huey. He came from a family of nine kids, Charles (Sonny) Smith, Gail Lynch, Tony Smith (deceased), Debbie Wilkerson, David Smith, Kathy Sims, Angie Smith and Daryll Smith (deceased). His parents were James Walter Smith and Sarah Griggs Smith. There are also many nieces and nephews.

At some future date, a celebration of life will be scheduled for family and a few close friends. In lieu of flowers, and due to the COVID-19 situation and the impact that is having on the business, Ramelle asks if you would consider making a donation to cover Mike’s 2019-20 medical expenses. Any money beyond those expenses will be donated to Mainspring Conservation Trust , PAWS Animal Shelter of Bryson City  and Four Seasons Hospice.
