Mike Moore medical expenses

Donation protected
Lifelong South Austinite and 1980 NFR bullfighter Mike Moore needs our help. He has been diagnosed with a rare blood cancer called Primary Myleofibrosis. The cancer has progressed to the point where trial medications and chemotherapy have been unsuccessful. His most significant side effect is anemia; which leaves him with extreme fatigue. He also has an enlarged spleen. There are times Mike can’t even walk across the street without stopping to rest. The next step is a potentially life threatening stem cell transplant that has a success rate of around seventy-five percent. Although this is an extremely risky surgery; Mike, being a fighter, has chosen the transplant.  Approximate cost could exceed a million dollars. The transplant will be performed in Houston, sometime around October.

Insurance will cover a large portion of the cost (80 – 90%) but Mike will have to stay in Houston close to MD Anderson hospital for at least four months, which will be a substantial cost and hardship on his family. Mike will need to devote all of his focus and strength on surviving the surgeries; not on how he will be able to survive financially. Even with insurance, his out of pocket costs will be over $100,000.

Please donate whatever you can to help Mike and his family through this extremely difficult time.
